This April 25th, the English lovers have witnessed a spiritual feast contributed by the Mayflower English club in the 10th floor meeting room of Zhoushan Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau. After several weeks’ preparation, a debate was held here.
The topic of this debate is “keeping the minors away from net bars is an effective way to prevent them from getting indulged in video games. The pros from the Mayflower English club and the cons from Zhejiang Ocean University have presented the audiences an excellent debate show with their brilliance, knowledge and the skills of language. In the debate, the pros focused on the disadvantages brought by the business operation of net bars and claimed that the net bar managers are not able to provide sufficient guidance to prevent young people from getting indulged in video games. Therefore, young people should be encouraged to use the internet in the school or at home, where they are able to receive sufficient guidance and helps. While the cons insisted that what decides are the internal and psychological factors, that is to say, the net surfers’ own attitudes and willingness. If the net surfers are not sufficiently mentally mature, it is useless and rude to simply keep the young people away from net bars. During the two-hour-competition, neither side was willing to give in. Each side kept trying to find the weak points in the opponents’ statements. The air in the meeting room becomes rather heated. At the end of the debate, the judge commented each side in the debate: the Ocean University students impressed audiences with their passions and knowledge, while the participants representing the Mayflower English Club showed their advantages in experiences. This night, the result is not important. What matters is only the joy and benefits from mind communications and the language skill practice during the course of this debate.
4月25日晚，在舟山出入境檢驗檢疫局10樓會議室，五月花英語俱樂部為廣大英語愛好者奉獻了一場精彩的辯論比賽------一場精神盛宴。
本次辯論的辯題是：禁止未成年人進入網吧是否防止未成年人沉迷于網絡游戲的有效方法。在此辯題之下，來自五月花英語俱樂部的正方和來自浙江海洋學院的反方展開了激烈的辯論。在一輪輪的你來我往中，雙方辯手充分展現了其敏銳的頭腦，廣博的知識面，以及良好的語言水平。在辯論中，正方選手強調網吧運營的商業性決定了網吧不可能對未成年人在上網時給于足夠的引導和幫助以防止其沉溺于網絡游戲，所以未成年人應當被鼓勵在家中或學校中上網，即在父母或學校老師的引導很和監督之下上網。而反方選手則認為，在網絡游戲成癮的問題上起決定性作用是內因而不是外因，即上網者自身的心智成熟程度。如果未成年人的心智發育不能得到很好的得到引導的話，禁止其進入網吧這樣簡單粗暴的做法未必能達到預期的效果。在將近兩個小時的辯論中，雙方互不相讓，針對對方發言中的漏洞，展開了一輪輪精彩的稱述，場面十分精彩。最后，辯論賽在評委的精彩點評中落下了帷幕。如果說來自海洋學院的學生辯手以他們的激情和知識打動了觀眾，來自五月花英語俱樂部的選手則向大家展示了他們的成熟老道和經驗豐富。在這個夜晚，結果不再重要，重要的是大家在思想的交流和語言的交鋒中的快感與收獲。
